Adopt A School

ADOPT A SCHOOL CONSIDERATIONS

To establish a long running program with a school in the district of Columbia, we, the DC chapter of Concerned Black Men, Inc, would like to “Adopt A School”.   We are evaluating the schools based on the following selection considerations:

1>  In addition to a supportive administration,  it is also very desirable that we establish a point of contact at the school we select.  This person would be the person that we pass information to and contact on a weekly basis.  He or She would be a person set aside to collaborate with us on our programs.

2> Does the school have a current need for us?  Why?

3> Does the school have other groups or an organization that do similar work?  This may or may not be negative, we would just like to know in what capacity we are engaged.

4> Has the school participated with us before or with any of our current or past programs?

5> We would prefer an elementary school K through 6th grade.

6> The status of the school; Is the school in jeopardy of closing? How long has the administration been in place? Is the school restructuring of the school regarding test scores etc.

7> We would like to establish a chess club in addition to the other services.

We have had an Adopt-A-School since
1985. Please contact the office if you think your school can be our Adopt-A-School for the 2009 - 2010 school year.

CBM-DC members serve as positive role models by working with the students in the classroom. Students receive tutoring, learn computer skills, and go on field trips. The students also listen to several guest speakers in areas of interest such as art, history, communications, sports, and business.
