International Awareness

IA New York Trip Poster

Students learn about other cultures and world affairs by visiting embassies, organizations involved in international affairs, museums, and ethnic restaurants in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere. Representatives of the embassies and organizations speak about their activities and give students an opportunity to ask about their work. Every year the program includes a trip to New York City to tour the United Nations and another cultural or historical site in the city.

During past trips our partner schools have been Moten Elementary School, Hart Middle School, the KIMA Charter School and Bell Multicultural High School in Washington, D.C.  Our schedules have included trips to the Holocaust Museum, the Environmental Protection Agency for a talk by NASA astronaut Benjamin Alvin Drew, Jr., the Embassy of Venezuela, the Arthur Schomburg Center and  the United Nations.
